Falconer Heights Park is a community park buried in the Falconer Heights neighborhood on the Southwest side of Edmonton. It includes several benches and green spaces along with a playground consisting of two main structures, one for ages 2-5 and one for ages 5-12. This park also has swing sets as well as a few merry-go-round pieces. There is both sand and artificial grass that make up the base of this park.
First Impressions
So my first thoughts on this park is that there is a lot of space with just a little bit of equipment. There is plenty of space in this park to play, but a lot of it is just sand in between the structures. The turf is also half sand and half artificial grass. The artificial grass is under parts of the equipment and half of the swings but there are a lot of places where the turf is uneven.
Structure Specifics
This park has some typical equipment with a few fun add-ons. The smaller structure is set-up in a circular formation with several ways to climb up and slide off. It also has a spring pad next to it that can be utilized in all sorts of fun ways.
The larger structure is fairly straight, rising from one end to the other. It has lots of ways up, including ladders and a rock wall, and several ways down, including a spiral and twin straight slides. Younger kids can get on at one end and go as high or as far as they like where as older kids can climb up the taller end.
Tips & Tricks
This park has lots of sand and open space so take advantage of it. Bring a shovel and a bucket, bury a friend, or hide a few small objects for a scavenger hunt.
This playground also has metal slides, so test them out before taking a dive. Check the temperature of the slide on hot days or make sure to wear long pants so those legs don’t get burnt.
